We asked, Carolyn Kaczmarek answered:

What inspires you?

“I find my greatest inspiration in place. Sometimes it’s as simple as wandering through my neighbourhood with my dog, noticing the way light hits a building or how people express themselves on an ordinary afternoon. Other times, it’s traveling across the globe and immersing myself in entirely new landscapes and rhythms. Exploration fuels me and helps me continually build and refine my visual library. Every city, culture, and conversation adds another layer, finding its way back into my designs in ways that feel both natural and meaningful.”

What makes a great design?

“Great interior design is where beauty and purpose intersect. A space should be visually compelling, but more importantly, it must function for the people who inhabit it. If it doesn’t support how someone moves, works, rests, or gathers, it isn’t truly successful. It begins with a clear point of view and a cohesive story guiding decisions around programming, materiality, light, and layout. I approach each space with the end user in mind, understanding that even the most beautiful elements lose impact if they don’t thoughtfully respond to the client’s needs, the space’s purpose, and to one another. Ultimately, great design shapes how people feel. It can energize, calm, inspire, or comfort. When a space achieves that naturally and effortlessly, that’s when I know it’s truly working.”
